Campers can come in the year that they turn fourteen, and may continue returning up to and including the summer that they graduate from high school. You do not need to be a resident of Wyoming to attend. In fact, we especially encourage campers from out of state to come!

Writers Camp happens meets every summer at the Thorne-Rider Youth Camp in Story, Wyoming. Story is approximately twenty miles south of Sheridan, 134 miles north of Casper, 148 miles south of Billings, 1,963 miles west of New York City, and 238,857 miles from the Moon. Two hundred and fifty bucks. That includes everything. Cheap! Even so, there is financial aid available for those in need.

A typical day at Writers Camp is composed of three square meals, two writing sessions of two hours each, and more fun than the average person gets in an entire year. At the end of each day, campers generally look like this:
You can take a look at the daily schedule here.

Meals are provided, of course, and everyone eats together in the lodge. The faculty is responsible for preparing the meals, although campers help out with food preparation and cleanup. All dietary restrictions and observances are accommodated. This past summer the menu included authentic burritos, Indian food, homemade pizza, and real chili.

All campers are required to bring a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and tent. There is a designated boys' area and girls' area for campers to set up their tents, although many campers opt to sleep in the lodge on cold nights.

Yes.
Just kidding. We actually do away with that whole "good writer" and "bad writer" thing, focusing instead on "writing." If you like to write, if you are interested in expressing yourself through language, if you're curious about what might happen if you suddenly found yourself hanging out with people who feel the same way, that's enough.
